For fans of the quirky and the bizarre, The Good Life definitely deserves to be on your radar, if it isn’t already. From the mind of Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro, the writer and director of the Deadly Premonition games — a series that’s about as ludicrous as they come — a new trailer has dropped for his next project, and it looks as strange and exciting as you’d expect from the creator of Francis “York” Morgan.
For those not so keen on the horror aspects and mature themes of Swery’s last work, however, his latest effort appears to be a much more light-hearted, slice-of-life-style title. In The Good Life, players take control of Naomi, a photographer from New York who arrives at a rural town by the name of Rainy Woods (which, as hardcore Swery fans may know, was also the original title for Deadly Premonition early in the game’s development). Naomi, suspicious of the overly cheerful residents, is determined to uncover the town’s secrets, and learns the ability to shapeshift into animals.
The game, which was funded by more than 12,000 supporters last year on Kickstarter, has now found a publisher. Swery recently announced that he and his development studio White Owls Inc. have teamed up with British publisher The Irregular Corporation, stating in a video shared on Twitter, “I’m ecstatic that this open-world mystery game, set in England, will be released by an English publisher! All that’s left is to make the game as good as it can be!”
The clip also features an all-new trailer for the game, which sees Naomi snapping photos, riding a sheep, and experience a late-night run-in with a “Berserk Badger:”
We are thrilled to announce that we have partnered with @Swery65 & White Owls Inc, to publish The Good Life on PC & consoles! 🐱🐶

Naomi will also need to make ends meet with some part-time jobs around the town, and players can grow a garden, make friends with the locals, and even catch a cold if they’re not vigilant with self-care.
The Good Life will release on Nintendo Switch in Summer 2021. If Animal Crossing: New Horizons was 2020’s greatest animal-based game, then I’m placing my bets on The Good Life to take the crown next year!
