The Pokémon Company may’ve already rolled out Pokémon Home but for many Trainers it’s been a long wait for this moment. Announced as part of today’s Crown Tundra news update, Pokémon GO connectivity will be added to Home “by the end of the year.”

While that’s good news for anyone invested in both GO and the traditional Pokémon titles, certain restrictions have also been outlined. For example, it’s a one way trip from GO – you cannot transfer Pokémon from Home (and thus Sword and Shield) to Pokemon GO.

It’s also mentioned that only “some” Pokémon can be sent to Sword and Shield once in Home, likely referring to the Switch games’ Galar Dex. You’ll also have to have registered the intended Pokémon in your Pokédex (or caught it before) to send it to Sword and Shield. Some special Pokémon (likely those wearing hats, for example) cannot be transferred either.

Lastly, transferring a Pokémon from GO to Home will grant you a Melmetal in Home! This Mythic Pokémon has been associated with GO since its discovery and is a tough evolution to procure. This special Mystery Gifted one will be able to Gigantamax in Sword and Shield as well!

Keep an eye out for the specific launch day for this connectivity, and take the time to prepare yourself for this mass migration in Pokémon GO.
