Tetris 99 is about to host its sixteenth Maximus Cup, which is pretty impressive for a free to play (mostly) multiplayer only title tied to a subscription service. These competitions have been a way for Nintendo to promote their releases, with themes tied to various games bringing players back time and time again. If you missed out on a few of these, the latest Cup is going in a different direction.

Rather than offer up a single, new theme over a single weekend, this time around it’s a sequence of three previous themes across an entire week of falling blocks. Likewise the usual requirement of earning 100 points to keep the theme has been cut down to 50 points.
The schedule, spanning from Friday, August 14th to Saturday, August 22nd is:
- 8/14 through 8/16 – Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- 8/17 through 8/19 – Luigi’s Mansion 3
- 8/20 through 8/22 – Ring Fit Adventure
Of the three, Animal Crossing’s is my favorite visually but Ring Fit Adventure has it where it counts – the music! Regardless of your tastes, be sure to grab the ones you may have missed or just enjoy the extra competition once this extra long Tetris 99 Maximus Cup 16 begins on August 14th.
