When the COVID-19 pandemic began earlier this year, many large gatherings and events were put on hold. Some activities, like gaming tournaments, were able to be held online only with very little delay. That hasn’t been the case for Japan’s series of Splatoon tournaments. The fate of the 5th Splatoon Koshien has been stuck in limbo — needing one more online team representative in order to proceed to the all-out turf war (regional representatives splatting for supremacy).

Reported by Japanese Nintendo, plans have been finalized to get the 5th Splatoon Koshien up and running. On Sunday, August 2nd at 18:00 JST, competitors in teams of four will be battling for the Spring National Tournament online representative spot. Once the winning team is decided, they will join the other nine teams online for two days of matchups — Saturday, August 15th, at 11:00 JST and Sunday, August 16th, at 13:00 JST.

All matches will be broadcast online on YouTube and Nico Nico. Currently, there are placeholder pages for the Spring National Tournament and the first day of the 5th Splatoon Koshien on YouTube.

For those who planned on attending in-person and cheering for their favorite Splatling crew, you still have time to order the 5th Splatoon Koshien themed merchandise on the My Nintendo Store.
