If you discount game-specific Directs and indie presentations, it has been over six months since the last “general” Nintendo Direct, which aired on September 4th, 2019. With Nintendo of America’s last dated game release of 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, mere days away from release, many fans have been wondering if we’ll ever leave this drought of news and updates.
Thankfully VentureBeat may have come to the rescue to quench our thirst, though it could just be a mirage. According to reporter Jeff Grubb, an indie game presentation is likely to happen next week, followed by a general Nintendo Direct the week after.

In a move which could be perceived as backing up these claims, Daniel Ahmad, aka ZhugeEX on Twitter, retweeted the article. For context, he previously accurately predicted that another Microsoft-published game would be announced during the August 2019 Indie World showcase (Ori and the Blind Forest) alongside a variety of other indie titles (Blasphemous, Trine 4, Skellboy.)
It’s also worth pointing out that Nintendo’s fiscal year comes to a close on March 31, and the company is typically expected to provide updates on future plans from that point onwards in its next investors report.
So it’s looking likely we’ll be out of the drought soon enough, so just hold on a little longer!
