Out of the blue, Nintendo UK has dropped a new trailer for Super Mario Maker 2’s next update, and it’s a big one! Not only are classic enemies like Pokey and Spike being added to the game, but there’s a whole new power-up for the Super Mario Bros. theme – the Master Sword!

This familiar weapon will transform Mario into Link, and give you access to his sword, bow, and bombs, plus a variety of other moves.

Pokey and Spike come with their usual array of attacks, with the former changing into a snow form and the latter throwing snow balls instead of spike balls on snowy courses.

Also included in the update are Frozen Coins and P Blocks for all course types, plus Dash Blocks for Super Mario 3D World courses.

Lastly, a new mode called “Ninji Speedruns” is being added, in which players compete to secure the fastest time on a variety of Nintendo-made courses; hundreds of Ninjis will appear on courses, acting as “ghosts” of other players.

Clearing courses will reward players with stamps and Mii costume pieces; top players will also have a trio of gold stars that circle their Mii for a limited time.

You’ll be able to download Super Mario Maker 2’s second major update starting December 5th, 2019.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
