It turns out Cooking Mama is making a return sooner than we thought! Some months-old press releases are being uncovered across the internet, revealing a Switch game that’s set to launch this fall, with the subtitle Coming Home to Mama, and it’s being pitched as a reboot of the series.

Not many specifics have been released for the game, with one of the key new features advertised as being a Vegetarian Mode that swaps out meat in recipes for alternatives. The controls will apparently blend motion inputs with traditional button presses, too.

More bizzarely, though, is the publisher – Planet Digital Partners. The group is pushing an initiative that puts its games on the blockchain – and beneath all the PR speak, what it basically means is that those who purchase the game digitally will potentially be able to sell or trade it, like a physical item. It also sounds like it’ll customize each game individually for the user in question, but how that’ll play out remains to be seen.

Finally, it’s worth noting that the recent Australian ratings board leak called the upcoming game Cooking Mama: Cookstar, which likely means the region will give the game a different subtitle. Hopefully we’ll see gameplay soon!

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
