Nintendo Dream recently sat down with Good-Feel developer and Yoshi’s Crafted World director Masahiro Yamamoto to talk about the title in detail. The full interview has yet to be translated, but the current snippets dive into the origins of the game, which are mildly interesting.

After Yoshi’s Woolly World, Nintendo talked to Good-Feel about a sequel before the release of the Switch. It took awhile for G-F to come up with the crafting theme — it sprouted from the idea of making levels have 3D depth instead of pure 2D gameplay, as well as front/back sides. Because playing levels that looked the same forwards and backwards would be “no fun at all,” the idea of a crafted world was chosen from a handful of other possibilities.
