Back in September, hot on the heels of the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe announcement, the internet whipped itself into a frenzy after spotting the new Super Crown item. With its ability to transform its wearer into Princess Peach, it resulted in fan-art ranging from the cute to the… M for Mature.
If you were hoping the likes of Bowsette would be canonized, however, Nintendo has thrown cold water on the idea via the official website (as spotted by Resetera user JB2448). In the description for the Super Crown, it’s confirmed Toadette is the only one who can use it.
The nod to Luigi could be a reference to the plumber dressing up as Peach before, like in Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga.
Of course it’s possible to still think outside of the box – the descriptor could just be referring to the playable characters of NSMBU, after all. When it comes to memes, the internet always finds a way.
