In the months leading up to the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, rumors flew around claiming that the game would have a strong Heroes vs. Villains theme. For a while there it seemed possible, thanks to the addition of K. Rool and Ridley to the roster, but with the World of Light adventure mode seemingly set to bring together characters both good and bad against a common enemy, it looks like the game is focusing on different things.

That said, the Heroes Vs. Villains concept has cropped up in a place you might not have expected – the next Splatoon 2 Splatfest! Arriving ahead of next month’s already announced Frosty Fest, the game is celebrating the launch of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate next weekend by having you choose between heroic characters like Mario and Link or their adversaries; the likes of Bowser, Ganondorf, and the decidedly less menacing King Dedede.

While Splatoon has crossed over with other games in the past (who can forget that fateful Pokémon Red vs. Blue bout?) this latest Smash collab seems like great synergy to keep both games active over the holiday season.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
