Spring Man stood out as one of the most likely newcomers to Smash, mostly for being the marquee man of an all new fighting IP from Nintendo. Granted it doesn’t have the massive popularity of Splatoon, but ARMS is a notable Switch title nonetheless. Yet here we are, with the full roster revealed and Spring Man punching in not as a fighter but as an Assist Trophy.
Boi-oi-oing! As an Assist Trophy in Super #SmashBros Ultimate, Spring Man jumps and dashes around the stage while using his stretchy arms to punch, punch, punch – just like in #ARMS. In a pinch, he can unleash his powerful rush attack to pummel the opponent! pic.twitter.com/sZY9kUo514

It’s sad news for his fans, but his presence here is still more than welcome. He’ll be giving the Belmonts a run for their money in the range department with long reaching punches, and even a rush attack straight out of his home game. My only real hope? He better still call out ‘Spring-a-ling!’ at some point.
