After Hello Kitty took the first win over Cinnamoroll, this last weekend saw fans of My Melody and Pompompurin battle it out for a spot in the Japanese Sanrio Splatfest finals. Looks like more skilled players were drawn to Melody’s sweet skull bandana, because once again popularity wasn’t enough to seal the deal.

This is exactly what we saw in the last round, with the newer character getting more supporters and the more seasoned, classic character managing to take more wins. Purin may be loved, but it takes more than that to rise through the bracket.

That’ll make the upcoming final match a Hello Kitty vs. My Melody affair, otherwise known as a Sanrio-centric debate that’s been going on for decades. Both may bring plenty of big smiles, but only one can will have a small gift waiting for her once the ink dries.
