During Thursday’s surprise Nintendo Direct Mini we saw plenty of big Switch announcements but one of the more subtle, significant reveals was of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. The legendary Japanese developers at Falcom have scarcely supported Nintendo systems in recent years, other than a few handheld ports, so the Ys franchise’s return is quite a turnaround.

In case the gameplay footage didn’t convince you to try out the action-packed JRPG, Nintendo has uploaded another more story focused trailer with nothing but anime cutscenes. Check it out:

It’s worth noting that while the game is the latest in a long line of Ys games, most all of them work as an entry point to the franchise. This is thanks to series protagonist Adol Christin essentially being Link just with red hair and a tendency to get amnesia at the beginning of every adventure.

NIS America will be bringing Ys VIII to Switch this summer.
