Last month Sonic fans in San Diego were treated to an event that not only revealed Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces to the world, but also featured music performances by the beloved Crush 40. Those of us at home, though, had to endure all sorts of technical difficulties, with the most infuriating being a ceaseless buzzing through much of the show.

Of course, as the Sonic franchise is no stranger to self-deprecating humor, the buzzing has returned in fine form for Sonic Mania. After beating the final boss of Studiopolis Zone, the TV in the background goes to a transmission error screen, which is accompanied by an identical dreaded buzz until the stage transition. You can check it out at the end of the video below or at the time-stamped spot here.

In case you have any doubts, Twitter user @Mike_The_Poet has pointed out that the date on the screen during this part matches up perfectly with the day the stream was held.

Sonic Mania is filled with other nods to the franchise’s history, be sure to keep a close eye out for them!
