The Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel is no stranger to themed songs. We’ve had a Slowpoke reggae, an eccentric little back-and-forth number on Magnemite and the somber, soft spoken Mimikyu rap already. Now it’s time for Pikachu to step up to the mic and start spittin’ some hot fire in a ridiculous rap set to the electric mouse.

Even if you don’t understand Japanese, you can pick out some classic Pika-traits. A dislike of Poké Balls, dressing up as an idol, a surprising talent for surfing, and even a shoutout to it being number 25 in the Pokédex while remaining number one in popularity. All of these game scenes are intercut with real life Pikachu mascots dancing together in various costumes.

This fun form of homage is leading up to the real life Pikachu festival, kicking off on August 9th in Japan. A look through the channel shows just how much fun’s being had getting ready for the celebration, so we can only imagine what’s going to happen once the party starts next week.
