Well, folks, it looks like one particular rumor that’s been floating around for some time is true: That Mario x Rabbids RPG is actually a real thing. Thanks to art assets confirming the corroboration over at
Kotaku, we’ve discovered that our favorite plumber will be taking part in some sort of wacky adventure alongside Ubisoft’s mischief-seeking rabbit-like creatures known as Rabbids.

Created with Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine, this turn-based combat game known as “Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle” is said to be a two-player local co-op that will sport eight playable characters: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi — and four Rabbids dressed up as Mario, Luigi Peach and Yoshi. To make the prospect of this bizarre game even more… intriguing… is the fact that the art shared with Kotaku is said to feature Mario and co. wielding guns that shoot laser beams. Say what?!

From the sound of it, the mashup title will be heading to the Switch in late summer, and you can most likely expect it to launch in August or September sometime.

That wraps up all the details that seemed to have been confirmed through Kotaku’s source. While all this information may seem strange in and of itself, we can’t exactly say we’re completely surprised. The rumor of Mario’s adventure among Rabbids was reported in November last year, and even back then, there appeared to be a substantial number of details pointing to a release.
