Now the NES Classic Edition has effectively been discontinued worldwide, many fans are wondering what Nintendo’s next move will be. According to a recent report by Eurogamer it’s what many of us have been expecting – a SNES Mini/Classic Edition releasing later this year, just in time for the holiday season.

While the publication doesn’t give any specifics outside of “sources close to [Nintendo]”, it’s worth noting they said the same thing with their Nintendo NX rumors which ended up being right on the money. If we can assume these sources are the same then it makes the rumor seem quite likely.

Now the question is when Nintendo would officially announce such a device and what games would make the cut. The NES Classic was announced back in July of last year, so we could see a similar time-frame. As for the games, we wrote up a list of our own hopefuls for a SNES Classic Edition last year.

We’ll be sure to let you know if and when a SNES Mini is announced.
