When we weren’t joyously absorbing everything Nintendo at this year’s E3, we were busy celebrating a few other key announcements. Among those was the fact that Final Fantasy VIII, the curiously missing entry in the series as far as eShop offerings go, was finally due for a remaster treatment. Thought improbable for the longest time, it’s now possible thanks to not only to Square Enix, but the efforts of developer Dotemu.

The folks behind Wonderboy: The Dragon’s Trap, the reintroduction of Windjammers, and the upcoming Streets of Rage 4, among others; Dotemu has taken to Twitter to state their involvement and field some fan questions.

For one, they’ve noted plenty of people asking for a physical edition of the game. While nothing’s confirmed or denied, that decision comes down to Square Enix more than Dotemu. They’ve also stated that the music will be as it was in the PlayStation original rather than any remade or reimagined arrangements. The developer/publisher has promised plenty more reveals at later dates for features in the Remastered version.

Be on the lookout for more information on FFVIII’s debut on Nintendo Switch and return to prominence as we head towards the game’s 2019 release.
