When you think Sega, you probably think Sonic. Or even Alex Kidd, if you’re feeling especially retro. But one mascot has endured in the minds of many fans, especially in Japan – Segata Sanshiro. Portrayed by Hiroshi Fujioka in a series of commercials promoting the ill-fated Sega Saturn, he’s become something of a beloved meme in recent years, with his antics and theme song enduring across the decades.

Now, despite blasting off into space and sacrificing himself via explosion to rescue Sega HQ, he’s coming back to life to guest star in Sega Fes’ special stage event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Sega Saturn, as reported by Siliconera.

It’s likely the event itself will be more of a retrospective, but there’s the possibility we’ll see news on previously announced projects like the Panzer Dragoon HD remakes.

Sega Fes will run from March 30-31. Hopefully Segata Sanshiro will make it out of the celebration unscathed, too!

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
