New cheat code found to unlock F-Zero GX’s hidden gold vehicles

It’s always incredible to read stories about new discoveries in decades old games. The most recent discovery comes in F-Zero GX, the final console installment in Nintendo’s venerable sci-fi racing franchise that still stands as the best game in the series. 23 years after its release, Japanese modder BTEST4HE not only unearthed master unlock codes, but found what many believe are debug codes to unlock the rare gold vehicle pieces for the game’s vehicle editor.

Requiring simultaneous input on four controllers, players can now unlock the five golden vehicles without traveling to in-person events which no longer happen. For those unaware, the gold vehicle pieces in F-Zero GX were unlocked via F-Zero AX, which is the arcade machine counterpart released around the same time as GX. Players were able to take their GameCube memory cards to the arcade to unlock exclusive parts for use back home. Via this system, Nintendo of Japan distributed gold vehicle parts via special in-person events that let players decorate their racers with unique flair. Those events never happened in America, and while devices such as Action Replay let players “unlock” the parts, this official code now does it for you.

All you need to do is plug in four controllers, head to the F-Zero Shop screen, and input the following button presses on each gamepad:

 

• Thunderstorm – X, Z, Y, Z, X, Z, Y, X
• El Dorado – X, RIGHT, X, Z, Y, LEFT, LEFT, Z
• Chrono Symphony – LEFT, RIGHT, Z, RIGHT, LEFT, X, RIGHT, Z
• Bahamut – Y, Y, Z, RIGHT, LEFT, Z, X, Y
• Gladiator – RIGHT, Z, X, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, Z, X

 

Obviously, this will be difficult as a single person, but at least the parts are unlockable in some form. The master modes for AX machines, AX courses, and Dark Schneider only require a single controller, but are performed on the same F-Zero Shop screen. Those are the following:

 

• All AX Machines Unlocked: X, Y, LEFT, RIGHT, Z, Z, RIGHT, LEFT, Y, X, Z, Z, Y, Y, RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT
• Dark Schneider Unlocked: Z, Z, Z, X, X, X, X, Y, Y, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT, Y, Y
• All AX Courses Unlocked: X, X, LEFT, RIGHT, Y, Z, Z, Y, LEFT, RIGHT, X, LEFT, RIGHT, Z, X, RIGHT, LEFT, Y, Y 

 

You will still need to acquire tickets to purchase the gold parts from the shop, but that’s a small price to pay for finally getting these parts “legitimately.” Also, asking someone to play F-Zero GX is never a bad thing.
