Nintendo of Japan will soon be increasing the price of Switch Online across all of its subscription tiers. Announced some months back when prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 console were tweaked, the change is set to take place on July 1st, 2026, with increases anywhere from 100 yen to ¥1,000 based on the specific tier.

The new pricing structure is as follows:

  • Individual (One Month) – ¥400 (Up from ¥306)
  • Individual (Three Months) – ¥1,000 (Up from ¥815)
  • Individual (12 Months) – ¥3,000 (Up from ¥2,400)
  • Family Plan (12 Months) – ¥5,800 (Up from ¥4,500)
  • NSO + Expansion Pack (12 Months) – ¥5,900 (Up from ¥4,900)
  • NSO + Expansion Pack Family Plan (12 Months) – ¥9,900 (Up from ¥8,900)

While the change is happening in Japan next week, prices in South Korea will also be increasing in the near future. Nintendo’s stated reason for the increase is due to the weakening value of the yen, which has taken a pummeling in recent years. The gap between the US dollar and Japanese yen is at its widest since 1986, meaning prices for Nintendo Switch Online in the region do not match equivalent values in the US.

As VGC notes, a 12-month plan in Japan currently costs about $14.86 whereas it goes for $19.99 in the US. The new value will put it at roughly $18.58, which is still cheaper, but not by much. If Nintendo wants to keep the value of NSO globally consistent, it wouldn’t make sense to up prices in the US just yet.
