I guess Nintendo really loves making time-limited DK content, because in addition to DK Challenge, it announced that Donkey Kong Bananza’s DLC will be receiving a time-limited crossover with Super Mario Bros. to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the series. Try and say that five times fast.

Owners of Bananza’s DK Island and Emerald Rush DLC will soon be able to adorn DK and Pauline in Mario and Luigi costumes (respectively) during specific time slots. Available across four waves, it’s unclear whether playing the DLC unlocks these costumes permanently, or if you only have access to the Bros.’ duds during the waves. There doesn’t even seem to be any new content or challenges to go along with the costumes.

The event will be accessible during these timeframes:

  • June 9, 2026 – June 30, 2026
  • July 14, 2026 – July 21, 2026
  • August 4, 2026 – August 11, 2026
  • August 25, 2026 – September 1, 2026

I suppose the 40th anniversary only happens once (and was technically in 2025), so by making it a time-limited event, you’re celebrating the impermanence of it all? I’m struggling to figure out the logic here, but if you want new costumes for Donkey Kong Bananza, make sure to play its DLC during one of the listed times above.
