In a new report from Bloomberg, it’s been stated that Nintendo is looking to ramp up production of the Switch 2 by a whopping 20% through to March 2027. If you’ll remember from earlier this month, the company stated that it expected to see sales slump a bit in 2026 amid the ongoing tariff situation and rising inflation. Something must have happened within the last few weeks to change Nintendo’s tune, especially since it’s now aiming to produce 20 million consoles over the next year.
According to Bloomberg’s sources, which asked for anonymity, this latest production plan has not been finalized and is subject to change based on demand. It’s still a marked change from what Nintendo was saying just weeks ago, so there has to have been some seismic shift in its economic forecast. At the same time, Nintendo is known for making rather conservative estimates that it then shatters in record time.
Serkan Toto, a Tokyo-based industry analyst, told Bloomberg, “For them, there is no real downside in lowballing numbers first and then surpassing them later. The just-finished fiscal year is a good example.” What he is referring to is Nintendo’s estimate of around 15 million Switch 2 sales for 2025, which it wound up eclipsing by nearly five million units for a total of 19.9 million.

Sadly, I’m not sure what 2026 will hold for the company. The Nintendo Switch 2 will be increasing in price on September 1st, 2026, in North America and Europe, which could put a damper on sales momentum. In Japan, the console will be increasing in price next week. Nintendo has been adjusting the prices of its first-party games, though, with digital versions going for $10 cheaper than physical versions. To that end, both Splatoon Raiders and Star Fox are priced at $60 physical, which is cheaper than any of last year’s $70 games.
