Despite all the hype and positive reception surrounding the game, it looks as if Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has failed to meet sales expectations for Sega. As part of the company’s Q2 financial report, there’s a segment dedicated to sales of the Sonic brand, and in it is a slide focused on CrossWorlds. While Sega notes the overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam and 80 score on MetaCritic, it states, “However, initial performance did not meet our expectations, and we are aiming to sell approximately another 1 million units within this fiscal year.”
That’s honestly a little surprising considering the number of platforms the game is on. While Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds wasn’t available on Nintendo Switch 2 at launch, it did release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch on September 25th, 2025. It would later hit Switch 2 digitally on December 4th, 2025, with a physical release planned for late March 2026. While one million units is hardly anything to scoff at, the game really should have moved that number on each platform instead of collectively.

In the same slide, Sega states, “We aim to sustain long-term sales by encouraging players to enjoy the game over time through the continued support of the title including ongoing release of additional downloadable content.” To date, four packs have been released with another two coming. I would imagine CrossWorlds will get a second season of content, too, to help push more sales.
