Nintendo has revealed that sales of the Nintendo Switch remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door have surpassed the original GameCube release in less than one year. As part of the company’s financial report for Q2 FY2025 today, it was announced that The Thousand-Year Door has reached 1.94 million units sold since its release in May. While that’s not super blockbuster status, it certainly propels the game into a sales success.

For comparison, the original GameCube version managed to sell 1.91 million units after a few years before Nintendo stopped selling the game. The Paper Mario series has never been a hugely popular one, though the Wii entry Super Paper Mario nearly broke 5 million sales. It’s probably unlikely that The Thousand-Year Door will hit those same numbers, but you never know. The Switch has done remarkable things for series that typically never sold much.

Some other revelations from Nintendo’s financial report include things like how Nintendo probably won’t reveal the Switch 2 this year and how Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sales have hit 21 million. Nintendo has seen tremendous success this generation and if it can keep that going into the next, it will be in a healthy spot.
