Today’s Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase was huge for fans of Capcom’s intense, mythical monster-hunting series, with the video opening with the explosive Monster Hunter Rise. It didn’t let up from there, as this was immediately followed by the announcement for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.

A sequel to the 2017 3DS and mobile title, Wings of Ruin is more focused on story than traditional Monster Hunter games, casting players as a rider (rather than a hunter) descended from a legendary rider known as Red. Your journey will see you investigating the emerging disappearance of the Rathalos species from their natural habitats.

The game presents beautiful cel-shaded graphics with a strong anime-style influence, with lots of recognizable, returning beasts such as Anjanath.

We had a blast with the previous game, as you can see in our review of Monster Hunter Stories. The visuals, story, and the turned-based RPG gameplay were definitely highlights, and these aspects are certainly looking strong for the sequel.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will launch on Nintendo Switch in Summer 2021.
