Pokémon GO developer Niantic seemed to be on a roll lately, having recently announced the addition of Mega Evolution into the game and offering players three Remote Raid Passes for a single PokéCoin. Sadly, it seems Mega September is kicking off with some bad news for those playing on older phones.
The official Pokémon GO account has announced that the game will be ending support for “Android 5, iOS 10, and iOS 11, as well as iPhone 5s and iPhone 6.”
In an upcoming update to Pokémon GO in October, we will end support for Android 5, iOS 10, and iOS 11, as well as iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 devices. Trainers with devices not specifically listed here will not be affected and don’t need to take any action.

This isn’t the first time Pokémon GO has outgrown older devices; the game also abandoned a number of Android and iOS devices in 2018, the Apple Watch the following year, and most recently, it dropped support for 32-bit Android phones in June 2020. As always, it’s very unfortunate for avid Pokémon Trainers with older devices, especially for young players who don’t have the luxury of upgrading without a sufficient income.
