As is to be expected considering the game’s release in two weeks, Nintendo has finally unveiled the file size for the digital version of the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Despite looking like a generational leap over what the Nintendo Switch 1 could do, Link’s re-imagined adventure through time will only occupy 27 GB if you opt to download it off the eShop.

The confirmation of this file size comes from not only the official eShop listing, but Twitter user Genki_JPN. In-store cards in Japan for the digital version list the 27 GB figure, which certainly can’t be changed after being printed. An eShop listing can be tweaked last minute, but not a printed receipt, so it’s safe to say Ocarina’s 27 GB figure is set in stone.
For comparison, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild occupies 24 GB on Switch 1 with its Switch 2 upgrade pack tacking on another 10 GB. Recent first-party Switch 2 games haven’t been dramatically large, either, with Star Fox hitting 15.1 GB, and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book occupying 19.8 GB. File sizes have increased due to higher resolution textures and such, but Nintendo has seemingly figured out how to properly compress its games. It does make the paltry 256 GB of the Switch 2’s internal storage feel appropriate when you look at it like that.
