Did you happen to secure a pre-order for the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 Edition console? If you didn’t, don’t fret too much. In an interview with Brazilian YouTube channel Coelho no Japão, Nintendo Latin America general manager Bill van Zyll admits the company “underestimated” demand for the console on a global scale. Restocks are planned, but the company misjudged how initial demand for the special edition device would be so high.
“I will tell you that it’s a global phenomenon. We have this issue absolutely everywhere. We apologize for that. That certainly is not the intent,” van Zyll told the channel. “We underestimated how well it would be received – and there’s certainly some markets that stand out.” Noting how the US did “extremely well,” van Zyll states pretty much every market is running out of product. “The pre-sales are hitting their max, and certainly that’s what happened to us in Brazil.”
Van Zyll says Nintendo is working on restocks across the globe, but as with anything, it will take some time. Telling the channel, “Please be patient,” it at least seems like this Zelda Edition console won’t be a 2026-only product. I don’t expect it to become a regular part of the Switch 2 ecosystem, but it will likely stick around into 2027 for a little bit. “It caught us by surprise,” van Zyll admits. “We expected a positive response, but the magnitude… It’s amazing.”

Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 launch date
The Zelda Edition Switch 2 console will release on October 29th. As mentioned above, it’s currently sold out at retailers, but you can expect restocks in the future. Stay tuned, and we’ll be sure to alert you on those restocks on all of our social media channels (X, Facebook, Bluesky, Instagram).
