Nintendo wants to make sure you’re hyped as hell for the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, so it’s starting to put out a blast of short teasers which highlight different aspects of the game. In this latest Japanese ad, we get our first look at Dark Link, one of the more iconic boss fights in gaming. First appearing Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link (of which Ocarina of Time originally started as a remake of), the mysterious figure captured the hearts and minds of gamers back in 1998 when he appeared seemingly out of nowhere in the middle of Link’s time hopping quest.

While everything we’ve seen from this remake makes it appear as if Nintendo is being strictly faithful to the N64 original, I do wonder if more hints about Dark Link’s inclusion will be peppered throughout. Nintendo has always designed its games with a “gameplay first” philosophy, so getting a chance to rethink things and include more overt story references would be neat. In that way, I’m excited to see how Ocarina of Time can tweak moments which have been imprinted in my brain for the last three decades.

If nothing else, this visual style has grown on me, even if my initial reaction was… strong. I can only hope that the now legendary dungeons and towns Link visits will live up to whatever expectations I have. We won’t have to wait too long, as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time hits Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
