As you likely know by now, Nintendo finally updated the Switch 2 to support VRR when playing in docked mode last week. It was one of the most requested features by fans, and after update 23.0.0, it now works… for exactly one game (that being Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour). I suppose that’s a start, but we at least have confirmation that another game will feature it soon.

The upcoming Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is the second confirmed game to feature VRR support when docked. As listed on the Japanese eShop page (and in a few other regions), Ocarina of Time will feature amiibo support, HDR output, surround sound support, and VRR for compatible TVs. That phrasing is important because if it was limited to handheld mode, there wouldn’t be a mention of having compatible hardware. The Nintendo Switch 2’s built-in display features HDR and VRR natively, so there is no need to even clarify the features work when playing handheld.

Seeing as how it’s still early days for docked VRR on Switch 2, we’re bound to see more games support the feature in the coming weeks and months. Nintendo’s latest hybrid device has proven itself quite capable of handling bigger titles, but without VRR support when docked, shoddier performance tends to make games feel juddery. Off the top of my head, a game like Dynasty Warriors Origins would benefit immensely from docked VRR with its unlocked frame rate mode.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time releases for Switch 2 on November 5th, 2026.
