As the entire internet expected, Nintendo announced the release date for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s remake during today’s Zelda 40th Anniversary stream. Just in time for the holiday season, fans and newcomers alike will be able to experience Link’s time warping quest on November 5th, 2026. That’s a bit earlier than I expected, though with enough time away from Grand Theft Auto VI to not overwhelm players with multiple consoles.
Along with a decently lengthy first-look at some gameplay, Nintendo showed off a cinematic trailer for Ocarina of Time which recaps the general story and gives us a look at a bunch of different characters. We see both Young and Adult Link, Young Zelda, Ganondorf, Sheik, and even the Great Fairies. I’m surprised by how faithful everything winds up being, even if the higher resolution sheen starts to drift into uncanny valley territory.
The trailer ends with a small nod to the original N64 release of Ocarina of Time by announcing that first-print copies of the game will include foil cover art. Maybe that’s not the same as a golden cartridge, but it’s still fun for physical game collectors. With Nintendo being the only company still putting effort into physical editions, I’ll take what I can get on that front. Surprisingly, we don’t have a price yet, but I imagine $70 will be the final MSRP.
