Closing out today’s Nintendo Direct was something brand-new all the way from Dream Land. Kirby and the World Beyond was announced as the next title in the series, just in time for the series’ 35th anniversary.
The most apparent aspect in this debut is the open 3D world approach. Kirby is able to explore large-scale environments freely with expanded copy abilities. These include Cutter and Bomb, both of which now have traversal options built into their movesets.
They weren’t the only abilities shown — Sword Kirby is back and has a powered up state complete with bigger blade, longer hat, and a dashing scar. So strong is this state that Kirby was able to cut through the horizon itself! Or at least a facade of it, revealing an even grander scale outside of his enclosed area.
Just what is this blocked off area? Who’s the mysterious new entity joining up with Kirby? And what other familiar faces will show up like King Dedede did? We’ll find out when Kirby and the World Beyond arrives in Spring 2027.
