On social media last night, Kirby Air Riders director Masahiro Sakurai reconfirmed that his latest Kirby game will not be receiving any DLC. As stated in the lengthy Air Riders Direct a few months back, the game was not created with the intention of puffing it out with paid or free expansions. Following some patches, the team will disband to work on different projects under different publishers.
While that might be disappointing for fans of the racer, Sakurai seems committed to the retail version being exactly what he wanted from the game. As he writes, “We are aiming for a balance that will allow the game to be played without any problems even years from now.” He jokingly mentions he maybe has one more patch in him, but I would expect a couple of more before Kirby Air Riders support winds down.

We do know, however, that at least one full year of scheduled in-game events is planned to keep players busy. I would imagine something like that doesn’t constitute as DLC, so there could even be more support from Nintendo should the game prove successful. If that is the case, that is likely all we’ll get from Air Riders versus some big expansion or extra characters.
