It seems that Pokémon Pokopia has been a major hit for Nintendo as the company announced that its life-sim spinoff has shipped over five million units since releasing in March. Put another way, roughly 1/5th of all Nintendo Switch 2 owners have bought Pokopia, an attach rate that is ludicrous when you think about it. The only game to sell better is Mario Kart World, which is at 15.39 million or nearly 64% of all Switch 2 sales.
Against all odds, Pokémon Pokopia has become the current second best-selling Switch 2 game. While I don’t believe that will hold as the console gets older, it’s impressive for the system’s first year in which big titles such as Donkey Kong Bananza, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and even Pokémon Legends: Z-A were released. The major success of Pokopia has even seen Nintendo’s shares increase by 7% today, according to CNBC.

A press release from The Pokémon Company takes the chance to promote the newly released Expansion Pass, which will be split into three different parts. Part one is currently available, which brings an underwater town with new Pokémon for players to welcome into their villages. Part two will land in late 2026 while part three is set for early 2027. It will be interesting to see if the DLC shifts more units of the game, though I believe positive word of mouth has done a lot already.
