It’s been so long since Metal Gear Solid 4 originally released in 2008 that some people were worried the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 version would lose of the game’s iconic product placement. Surprisingly, that won’t be the case, as Konami has just confirmed that both the in-game iPod and even deployable Playboy magazines have made the cut. That’s unexpected, but hugely appreciated.
As part of a Washagana TV broadcast in Japan this weekend, Konami unveiled new footage of both Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker running in their new, modern conversions. Konami highlighted that the iPod and Playboy Magazine from the PlayStation 3 original are still selectable in-game. For those unaware, Kojima included the iPod as a means for allowing Snake to listen to some songs while sneaking around. The Playboy magazine is a distraction item for soldiers, in which you can place it on the ground to temporarily distract them for either a takedown or to sneak by.
There are some changes made in this version, though. On one of the boxes Snake can use to sneak around, there was a URL to a Hideblog that fans could visit. Since the website no longer exists, this has been removed. The loading screens in this new version have also been redone to more closely match the UI of the Master Collection, replacing Snake smoking indefinitely while the game installs between segments. Apart from that, this is otherwise a faithful port.
When will Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 release?
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will be released on August 27th, 2026, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. It will include Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel, as well as the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database.
