Nintendo and Illumination’s latest Mario film may be launching from theatres to people’s homes as soon as next week.
Sources close to movie news website When to Stream state that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is expected to arrive on video-on-demand platforms on Tuesday, May 5th, 2026.
Neither Nintendo nor Universal have yet confirmed this, but Forbes has noted that When to Stream is typically accurate when it comes to film releases.
It should be noted that this is when the film is expected to be available to purchase, not when it will be available to stream on services like Netflix.

The movie is available to pre-order now on Amazon in Ultra HD for $29.99, or bundled with its predecessor, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, for $39.99. Forbes also reports that Galaxy is expected to launch on Apple TV, YouTube Movies & TV, and Fandango at Home for $24.99.
The date fits in line with Universal’s new theatrical-to-digital streaming window. Earlier this year, Variety reported that the studio will keep its films in theaters for a minimum of five weekends before releasing them on video-on-demand services, and will extend to seven weekends in 2027.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie crossed the $800 million mark at the global box office this past weekend, making it the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far.
