With The Super Mario Galaxy Movie continuing to dominate the box office at theaters, it only makes sense that famed Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto would be elated by its success. In a new video message sent via the Nintendo Today! app this morning, Miyamoto thanked everyone for going to the movies and seeing the next installment in Mario’s silver screen saga.

For those without the app, Miyamoto said the following:

“Thank you so much for watching The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Even though the movie is called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, I’m sure you saw that we packed it full of material from 40 years of making games with Mario.

I hope some of the references to our games reminded you of fond memories you have playing them. We’d love it if you felt excited to return to those games and play them again. In the meantime, please look forward to more content featuring Mario from us in the future.

Here we go!”

By current counts, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has grossed $831.4 million worldwide. It sits as the highest grossing movie of 2026 so far in terms of domestic and international box offices. While it might not retain that crown throughout the remainder of the year, it certainly looks like Nintendo, Universal, and Illumination have a bona fide smash on their hands.
