The Sanrio Company, famous for Hello Kitty, has announced that it will be starting a new game brand for the first time in its storied history. Called Sanrio Games (shocking!), the debut title from the developer will be Sanrio Party Land, a party game scheduled for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 this year. Set for a simultaneous global release in Fall 2026, we don’t really know what the game is or how it will take shape, but the company mentions, “As a new point of connection linking Sanrio’s character IP with fans around the world, Sanrio Games plans to release around 10 titles over the next three years.”

I imagine the success of Hello Kitty Island Adventure gave Sanrio the confidence boost it needed to go full steam ahead on developing new titles. While not a smash hit by any means, it shows that Hello Kitty has the momentum and intergenerational appeal to draw good enough numbers. It was also plain cute, not to mention made good on a promise South Park made a decade+ earlier.

While it’s easy to assume that Sanrio Party Land will be a relatively casual game, the company states, “Through self-publishing, Sanrio will strategically design a diverse range of game experiences, from titles featuring a wide variety of characters to games that deeply reflect each character’s unique world, as well as projects across multiple genres.” Is it too much to ask for Hello Kitty Warriors?
