In today’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Hamster unveiled a new Arcade Archives 2 release would be coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Namco’s Rave Racer, the final arcade installment in the Ridge Racer franchise, arrives on February 26th. If you know this writer, you’ll know he can hardly type this without squirming excitedly in his seat.
However, Hamster wasn’t done there. Following this, a new Console Archives line for Nintendo Switch 2 was debuted with the immediate release of PlayStation’s Cool Boarders and Koei Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos to the Nintendo eshop today. Surprising stuff.
Furthermore, the future Console Archives lineup will include such titles as the Famicom release of Konami’s Doraemon, the Sega Saturn release of Video System’s Sonic Wings Special, Koei Tecmo’s Nobunaga’s Ambition on NES and Koei Tecmo’s Monster Rancher Hop-A-Bout for PlayStation. In other words, expect the unexpected.
Oh, who am I kidding? This is actually incredible. I’m hopeful that the Console Archives line will get a weekly addition much like the Arcade Archives line currently is. If so, this could really bring some nostalgia creeping back from the Wii and Wii U Virtual Console days. Hamster are truly champions of video game preservation and availability.
