Another month, another update to Nintendo’s ever-growing lineup of classic games available to Switch Online subscribers. Maybe due to the shorter month, the two new offerings for February 2026 are Game Boy games that most people have probably never played. Announced last night, the Game Boy app should now have both Balloon Kid and Yoshi available to play instantly.
If I’m not mistaken, Balloon Kid is actually a sequel to the NES game Balloon Fight, and follows the format set by that game’s “Balloon Trip” mode. There isn’t what you’d call a single-player campaign, but it has more direction than the arcade roots of the OG. The “original” is available in multiplayer with options from both “Game A” and “Game B,” which is just a difficulty toggle.
Yoshi, on the other hand, is the third game from Pokémon developer Game Freak that simultaneously released on Game Boy and NES. The NES version is already available for NSO subscribers, but you can now try out the handheld conversion that released in the same year. It’s maybe a little redundant in 2026, but Yoshi is still pretty solid fun on Game Boy. It’s a decent twist on the Puyo Puyo format, though I vastly prefer 1992’s Yoshi’s Cookie (which is somehow not on NSO yet).
Both games should already be available, so you’ll simply need to boot up the Game Boy app and have fun.
