Capcom has introduced a new short film for the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, featuring horror movie star Maika Monroe.
As part of the company’s latest marketing campaign, cryptic posters have appeared across New York City and Los Angeles. They present photographs of missing people and the tagline, “Evil Has Always Had a Name.”
The posters’ QR code directs people to the short film, which sees Monroe as an unnamed mother protecting her daughter during the Resident Evil universe’s 1998 Raccoon City outbreak.
The Longlegs and It Follows star described the filming process to Entertainment Weekly.
“We had a lot of extras in zombie makeup just cruising around, which was quite funny,” Monroe said.
“Cops and dogs and smoke machines — it was just chaos. I mean, it really felt like chaos.”
The film ends by jumping ahead to the modern day, with Monroe’s character wandering the fallout site of Raccoon City as a zombie.
Despite her infected form, the woman is seen clutching a photograph of her and her daughter while visiting her child’s grave. This falls in line with information shared last month by Requiem Director Koshi Nakanishi, who said that the game’s zombies will “retain characteristics from when they were alive.”
Monroe’s zombie look was achieved by prosthetics, which took three and a half hours to apply.
“What I loved about it was it had a lot of heart,” she said.
“It’s really heartbreaking, the story that you’re watching unfold. I just thought it was a really interesting and a new way to portray this video game coming out.”
The film was shot in Mexico City by Rich Lee, who has directed music videos for many popular artists such as Eminem, Lana Del Ray, and Billie Eilish.
Monroe recalled seeing Lee’s lookbook, which featured visual references for the video.
“It felt very nostalgic. The big point was going back to the ’90s, the original location of Raccoon City,” she said.
“And then of course, you get to the end and they’re showing visuals of the zombies, that I would then get to be a zombie. It was really quite exciting.”
Resident Evil Requiem will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam on February 27th, 2026.
