Surprising just about everyone, Nintendo announced this morning that two more N64 games would be joining its lineup of classic games available to Switch Online subscribers. Available as part of the “Expansion Pack” tier starting December 17th, 2025, players will soon be able to replay Rayman 2: The Great Escape and Tonic Trouble from the comfort of their toilets. I just love the portability of the Nintendo Switch and where it lets me play games!

In all seriousness, Rayman 2 is a classic 3D platformer that blew people away in the late ’90s. Incorporating elements from Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie, it was a stark departure from the original Rayman, but one that felt fully realized. Taking lessons from the successes and failures of its day, Rayman 2 is often cited as the best installment in the series by many (though I would personally say Rayman Legends is). Strangely, its only re-releases were on the DS and 3DS years ago, which means this marks the first time in over 10 years that Ubisoft has brought the game to another platform.

Tonic Trouble, however, has more of a mixed reputation. Designed by Rayman creator Michel Ansel, I’ve never actually played Tonic Trouble, but contemporary reviews state it was incredibly derivative of Rayman. While released the same year as Rayman 2, it started development earlier and was likely the tested for concepts that would wind up in Rayman’s sequel. It, reportedly, had a troubled development cycle and would take over three years, which was ludicrous back in the ’90s. Whatever the case, you can try it out for yourself soon.
