It’s basically a running gag at this point, but Bethesda has ported Skyrim to yet another console. In a surprise launch this morning, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is now available on Nintendo Switch 2 in an enhanced form. The original game released on Switch all the way back in 2017, then was updated (as paid DLC) to the “Anniversary Edition” in 2022, which essentially includes fan-made DLC as part of the game. Now, if you happen to have that previous edition, you can play it on Switch 2 in native form with a bunch of fancier effects.
This Switch 2 edition comes pack with all the same content as before. You’ll get the main Skyrim campaign, three expansion packs, and a smattering of creation club content. On top of that, the Switch 2 version sports faster load times, smoother frame rates, higher output resolution, and mouse controls. The previous motion controls and amiibo support remain, including the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild crossover content unlockable with Link amiibo.

Price-wise, you can buy Skyrim for Switch 2 outright for $59.99, but if you have Anniversary Edition on Switch 1, then you get this upgrade for free. Currently, Skyrim for Switch is listed at $49.99 with the Anniversary update running $19.99, so it’s not cheaper to buy them separately. If you already have Skyrim but never purchased that DLC, then $20 isn’t so bad to get a much improved port.
