It seems that nothing can stop the might of the Pokémon franchise. According to Mat Piscatella, senior director of market research company Circana, Pokémon Legends: Z-A has become the “best-selling physical game of the year” in the US thus far. The information comes from an interview he did with YouTuber Kyle Bosman, where they discussed a number of topics relating to the games sales in 2025. If you didn’t already know, Piscatella believes Pokémon is huge.
“Pokémon’s the biggest media property around right now,” Piscatella told Bosman. “It’s leading in our toys tracking, the trading cards are one of the biggest drivers of the entire toy industry right now… It’s broken all containment from the video game world in terms of franchise strength. It’s the best-selling physical game of the year so far already, and it’s only been in the market a few weeks, and it’s going to be one of the big drivers of the holiday quarter.”
This latest update comes after Circana revealed that Legends: Z-A had the best US retail launch for Nintendo in two years. It also comes after Nintendo announced that first month sales for the game topped 5.8 million, roughly half of which were on Nintendo Switch 2. Seeing as how Nintendo does not divulge digital sales information, it’s entirely possible that Legends: Z-A is actually the number one best-selling game of this year in the US.
