One of the most impactful components of many video games are the soundtracks that go along with them. In particular, RPGs are known for their dramatic swells and cinematic battle themes among many memorable melodies. Seeing as how important the music is for these games, it seems natural to celebrate RPGs by celebrating their music, and that’s exactly what Square Enix thought too. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Chrono Trigger, one of the greatest RPGs of all time to many, and in celebration they just announced a special album featuring piano arrangements of some of the game’s best tracks.
The CHRONO TRIGGER Piano Soundscape Arrangement focuses primarily on character themes, with a total of 12 themes included. All of these are completely new renditions of familiar songs, and the full tracklist is as follows:
- Presentiment / Chrono Trigger
- Gato’s Song / Battle 1 / Fanfare 1
- Wind Scene
- Frog’s Theme
- Lavos’ Theme
- Robo’s Theme
- Ayla’s Theme
- Magus’ Castle / Confusing Melody / Battle with Magus
- Corridors of Time
- Sarah’s Theme
- Far Off Promise
- To Far Away Times
