Seemingly as a way to promote the upcoming Switch 2, Nintendo will be introducing a series of “Nintendo Classics” NSO icons for subscribers to its online service. Set to release in three waves, these icons are all focused on Nintendo’s classic consoles and feature things such as the NES gamepad, a pink Game Boy Advance SP, and even the SNES mouse. It’s certainly one way to show your love for Nintendo’s history of devices.

Wave one, which is available between May 20 and May 27, will have the following:

  • A variety of NES and Famicom icons are featured—consoles, controllers, R.O.B. the Robot, and even the Famicom Disk System!

  • Nintendo 64 icons include controllers, a Rumble Pak, an N64 console, and the elusive 64DD. Could this be a hint that 64DD titles are coming to Nintendo Switch Online?

Wave two, available between May 27 and June 3, includes the following:

  • Game Boy
  • Purple Game Boy Color
  • Game Boy Advance
  • Pink Game Boy Advance SP

Lastly, wave three will be available between June 3 and June 10 and contain the following:

  • Super Famicom and two controllers
  • SNES Mouse
  • Purple GameCube
  • Orange GameCube controller

I often forget that NSO even offers custom icons to unlock, but it has seemingly been successful enough for Nintendo to continue to release new icons from time to time. Thankfully, these icons only require platinum points to unlock, and those are typically earned simply by playing games. There are also missions you can complete to unlock some more, so it should be no problem unlocking all of these.
