One of the most striking things about the design of the Switch 2 is how basic everything is. Gone are the days of New 3DS Faceplates or fun colors, and in is Nintendo’s era of functionality over personality… or so we thought. If a recent listing by AliExpress is anything to go by (thanks to Universo Nintendo for spotting it), it seems as if the new Joy-Con will feature detachable stripes on the side that users can swap to customize their controllers a little. Think of them as racing stripes: they make the Joy-Con go faster!

As you can see from the listing on AliExpress, there appears to be a bit of plastic that is detachable on the side of the new Joy-Con. While we already know that the joystick cover has some color in it, previously, the sides of the Joy-Con were shown with the same finish as the rest of the controller. I guess Nintendo was saving this little detail for launch, but manufacturer APWIKOGER (which makes all kinds of cheap nonsense) has put these up for sale now. Currently, it seems the only colors are the ones associated with the Switch 2 already, which are neon red and blue. There are bound to be others, and I could see Nintendo releasing themed stripes in the future.

I suppose this is a fun little detail for the new Joy-Con, which I will refuse to call Joy-Con 2 for the entire lifecycle of Nintendo’s next console. I don’t know if I care for how those colors look when attached to the console, but any bit of personality is better than zero.
