With the Switch 2 a little over a month away from release, Nintendo is starting to ramp up its advertising efforts to make people aware of the console’s existence. In a pretty decent callback, its newest teaser actually brings back Paul Rudd to promote the console and its new game chat feature. I think it’s a fun idea, but the fact that Rudd specifically points out this is a reference to the old SNES commercial sort of robs the bit of its charm.
At any rate, it shows us a bit more of game chat working in tandem with Mario Kart World. I guess Paul Rudd doesn’t like sitting down in his own home, but he plays with some family and friends, and they all have a ball speeding through the mushroom kingdom. We know that the framerate for each person’s stream is reduced to free up resources for the console to playback at 60 FPS, so it’s not surprising to see “choppy” gameplay on the lower portions. I’m more curious how seamless everything will be once the console is out in the wild.
As Paul Rudd reminds us, the Switch 2 will be available starting June 5, 2025. It will be priced at $449.99, and a bundle including Mario Kart World will be $499.99.
