With the Switch 2 dominating headlines this month, you’d think Nintendo might be ready to leave the original Switch in the past. Thankfully, that isn’t the case, and Switch Online subscribers will be able to play a trio of “new” classic titles. Available starting today, April 11th, 2025, the Sega Genesis games “ESWAT: City Under Siege,” “Streets of Rage,” and “Super Thunder Blade” will be playable from the Genesis app, which is as good a time as any to remind you that Nintendo Switch Online has a Genesis app.

While only available with the Expansion pack tier, Nintendo hasn’t really added much in the way of Genesis titles to its service. The last update came in November of 2024 when another trio of titles was added, including the absolutely fantastic Vectorman. It’s nice that titles on platforms that weren’t created by Nintendo are even here, but with just 51 games playable (as of this latest update), it doesn’t really feel like Genesis fans are being well served.

At the very least, it’s good to have the original Streets of Rage playable alongside its successor, and I’m pretty partial to Super Thunder Blade. ESWAT… well, it has a cool cover. That’s worth something.
